Author Talk: John J. Clayton and Sharon Dunn

August 29, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

John J. Clayton reads from MINYAN: Ten Interwoven Stories
Each story is shaped around a member of a small Tuesday morning prayer group in Brookline, Massachusetts. These men and women face loss, doubt, anger, brokenness, longing and love. Clayton is the award-winning author of four novels, including Mitzvah Man, and four collections of short stories, including Radiance and Many Seconds into the Future.  He has long been mining the fusion of psychology and spirituality as well as observing and rendering family life.

Sharon Dunn reads from UNDER A DARK EYE: A Family Story
In her memoir, which is part detective story, Sharon Dunn explores the forces—of family, society, and history—that shaped her parents’ lives. How did her father become the bitter, damaging loner she knew? How did her empathic psychiatrist mother come to marry him? Dunn pieces together a compassionate vision of two complex individuals and their fateful marriage, through research, interpretation, and imagination. Her materials include letters, journal entries, memories, conversations, original poems, dreams, photographs. Dunn has published two volumes of poetry and was editor-publisher of the literary review AGNI for ten years. She partnered with her brother for over thirty years in growing a family business.
