“Aldren A. Watson’s Waterfront New York” with Clyde Watson

August 22, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

“Aldren A. Watson’s Waterfront New York”
Clyde Watson (editor) will share her father’s beautiful and historically rich collection of watercolors, based on 1920s and 1930s photographs taken by his own father and depicting the part of the city he loved―the waterfront and harbor of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. This book of 45 watercolor paintings and 5 maps depicts the thriving port city of New York in the early 1900s, rendered from the unique vantage point of an artist born and raised in Brooklyn. Paintings are accompanied by informative text and evocative recollections drawn from the artist’s notebooks and reflecting everyday life of the time. Ms. Watson will read selections from the book and share photographs, sketches, and notes to illustrate some of the background in its creation.
Author Clyde Watson is best known for her award-winning children’s books, including Father Fox’s Pennyrhymes, which was a National Book Award runner-up. She is also the composer of original music that appears in three of her books.  She has written scripts for several theater groups, including The Christmas Revels and the Summer Revels. In 2005 she was commissioned to write a script entitled “Masque of The Golden Bowl,” featured in five outdoor performances at the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. Her poetry has appeared in Pastoral Magazine and in the anthology Readings for Remembrance, by Eleanor Munro. She is a member of the Author’s Guild of America, which hosts her website www.clydewatson.com.
