Free Staged Reading – “White Gays” by Jim Dalglish

November 18, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Every year Rex throws a party for his closest friends in the South End townhouse he has lived for 40 years. The annual party marks a special anniversary, but this year there is something important he has to tell them that may change the course of their lives. Invited at the last minute is a young street kid named Avery who sees Rex and his friends for what they are -White Gays. But what the hell is that supposed to mean? This fast-paced comedy/drama doesn’t pull its punches. Neither do any of the guests at the party.

Jim Dalglish is a playwright, director, filmmaker, and producer with more than thirty plays and films to his credit. These works have been produced and screened around the world and have won awards in New York, Boston, London, and Dublin. A few of his plays have been anthologized in best play collections. Jim has directed more than two dozen theatrical productions, five of which he also independently produced. He has been employed by a variety of theaters in New England as a managing director, marketing director, and box office manager. Jim has a master’s degree in creative writing/playwriting from Brown University. His thesis advisor was Paula Vogel. When he isn’t busy writing, directing, or producing plays and films, he and his husband Rob Phelps enjoy sailing Delphina – their 17-foot O’Day Daysailer – along the sheltered harbors of New England. The Truro Playwright Collective is a group of established, local playwrights who present staged readings of their full-length works once a month from October through March.
