The Truro Public Library presents a “Peek into Puppetry Workshop,” with Dream Tale Puppets’ master puppeteer Jacek Zuzanski. We have twelve spots for 6 to 12 year olds in a full-of-fun introduction to puppet arts. In the two-hour workshop, children learn about hand, rod, and table-top puppets, and explore the relationship between a puppeteer and his puppet. The teacher explains how puppets are built and how an actor/puppeteer brings them to life. Hands-on activities teaching the principles of puppet manipulation and expression are followed by voice exercises and simple, improvised monologues and dialogues. In the second part of the workshop, children respond to varied tasks and instructions, and create short scenes on stage for their peers to see. The workshop teaches improvisation, scenes and character building, text interpretation, and principles of cooperation and stage presence, all in a gentle, friendly, and enjoyable format that employs games and supportive guidance.
