Let’s Get Moving! Using Playtime to Enhance Your Child’s Sensory Motor Development
October 5, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Jill Mays, an occupational therapist who has been practicing for over 25 years, will share why physical activity remains key to children’s development, especially as it relates to sensory processing and brain organization. Movement is essential not only for physical health and skill development but also for emotional, social, cognitive, and language development. Jill will weave in new research demonstrating the critical role of motor play in brain development.
Parents will learn strategies and fun activities that will help their children to self-regulate, stay organized, and improve attention. Integrating simple motor play in daily routines will lead to better management of multi-sensory input and facilitates more flexible thinking.
Jill is the author of Your Child’s Motor Development Story: Understanding and Enhancing Development from Birth to Their First Sport and creator of the non-profit website www.TheMotorStory.org. Child care and pizza will be provided! Please call the Library at 508-487-1125 to sign up.
