Coastal Geologist Mark Borrelli–at Truro Community Center
June 27, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
We welcome Coastal Geologist Mark Borrelli to talk about “Storms, Sea Level Rise, and Coastal Flooding in Truro: Now and in the Future.” What might happen in Truro when the waters around us rise? The Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown has developed a new method for mapping coastal inundation resulting from storms and/or sea level rise. Using this method, the Center has partnered with the National Weather Service, with their real-time storm surge forecasting in Truro and Provincetown, as part of a pilot project. Together, they identify the ‘where’ and ‘when’ of coastal flooding by identifying inundation pathways, or the precise location and elevation at which water will begin to inundate an area. Dr. Borrelli will present the results of this study and discuss the potential effects of storms, sea level rise, and coastal flooding here in Truro, including sensitive areas like Ballston Beach and Pamet River. Come find out what this means for residents of and visitors to Truro.
