Classics of French Cinema: Le Silence de la Mer
March 19, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Classics of French Cinemas: Selected Works of Jean-Pierre Melville
We welcome spring with a new French film series, focusing this time on the cinematic genius of Jean-Pierre Melville (1917-1973). With a signature style informed by his experiences in the French Resistance and imbued with both passion and precision, he keeps us deep in thought and on the edge of our seats. There will be time for discussion after the film.
Le Silence de la Mer (Silence of the Sea)
Constructed with elegant minimalism and shot, by the legendary Henri Decaë, with hushed eloquence, Le silence de la mer points the way toward Melville’s later films about resistance and the occupation yet remains a singularly eerie masterwork in its own right. (1949, 100 min.)
