Author Talk: James F. Simon
August 7, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Professor James Simon will talk about his new book Eisenhower vs. Warren: The Battle for Civil Rights and Liberties. In Eisenhower vs. Warren, described in multiple reviews as a page-turner, prize-winning legal historian James F. Simon examines the unusual enmity between a sitting President and a Chief Justice that framed the most tumultuous years of the modern civil rights movement. With remarkable insight and the legal nuance for which he is known, James Simon delves into Eisenhower and Warren’s archival records and individual histories to reevaluate their legacies, demonstrating how critical their feud is to our understanding of the civil rights movement. This detailed look at a pivotal time in United States history brings to vivid life the clash that reverberates in political and constitutional debates today. James F. Simon is dean emeritus at New York Law School. He is the author of nine books on American history, law, and politics—two of them New York Times Notable Books—and has won the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award. He and his wife live in West Nyack, N.Y. and Truro. This event is free and open to the public.
