Before 1934, women such as Norma Shearer, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, and Gretta Garbo (to name a few) appeared in the uncensored film era, allowing expressions of strong women in society. Able to express deep and strong emotions and opinions, women dealt with issues such as divorce, adultery, and women in the work force. After the introduction of the “Code,” the portrayal of women changed. Come learn about the politics of the times in Hollywood and hear the backstories behind these classic films and stars!
