The Truro Public Library is pleased to host an American Heart Association Heartsaver Course, taught by the Barnstable County Medical Reserve Corps, on Saturday, March 24, at 9:30 a.m.  In the 3.5 hour course, participants will learn how to recognize the most common life-threatening emergencies, and how to help, including how to determine when CPR is needed, how to give CPR, and how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator).  Course books will be provided for each participant, and those serving the public—so many of us on Cape Cod—are encouraged to attend.  This course is limited to 20 people, and you must pre-register.  This is a great opportunity to acquire or refresh lifesaving skills at a local venue!  To register for the class or to learn more, call the Truro Public Library at 508-487-1125.
The Medical Reserve Corps units are made up of locally-based medical and non-medical volunteers who donate their time and expertise to promote healthy living throughout the year, and to prepare for and respond to emergencies. MRC volunteers supplement existing local emergency and public health resources, supporting public health while advancing the priorities of the U.S. Surgeon General.  The Cape Cod Medical Reserve Corps (CCMRC) became a part of the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment at the request of the Cape and Islands Health Agents Coalition.  Directed by Diana Gaumond, BSN MPH, the mission of the CCMRC is to engage volunteers to strengthen public health, emergency response, and build community resiliency.
