Christus began his painting career at the age of 8 when his elementary school teachers recognized his talents and found a private teacher for him. In 1953 he graduated from Massachusetts College of Art where he studied under abstract expressionist, Laurence Kuperman and academician Patrick Gavin. He was introduced to the Boston art scene by Kuperman, who had great faith in the young budding talent. Early in his painting career, Murphy exhibited at the Carl Siembab Gallery on Newbury St. in Boston, then lived in Italy for a year before having a sold- out show in Las Palmas, the Canary Islands. Since 1976, Christus has exhibited in galleries in Boston, Richmond, VA and, most recently in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He has painted in Italy, Romania and Greece. This summer he held an Open Studio and Retrospective of 70 years of painting in Sandwich where he is currently living with his wife of 52 years, Janet Rodgers. His paintings can be found in homes in the USA, Europe and Mexico.
