Art Exhibit: December 3–31
Opening Reception: Tuesday, December 3, 3:00–5:00 p.m., Artist Talk at 4:00 p.m.
As a Graphic Designer, Garrow Throop spent his career creating imagery in the commercial world. Now Throop has applied this experience to his love of photography and painting. The unique result is a hybrid of photographic reality and painted fantasy, combined to create an essence of what we see around us. Each piece is approached differently, depending on what the image requires. Throop photographs a scene which lends itself to the process; he will then paint, separately, a watercolor, or oil, or pastel of the image and finally combine the two in a way that brings out the true feeling of the subject. The final combination often gets reworked until the reality balances with the fantasy. Throop explains, “I get excited each time I see a vista that would work and think of how I would treat it. I can’t get to work fast enough. And I am always discovering new applications, new combinations of media that I can mix in. I may go back on a painting 5 or 6 times…there are no rules since each image is treated differently.”
