Opening Reception in the Anne H. Brock Room
I was born in a suburb outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I attended college at Point Park College and received a B.S. in Business Management with an emphasis in Fashion Merchandising in 1995. I then attended college at The Fashion Institute of Technology and finished studies there in 1997.
I moved to Provincetown, MA full time in 2001 and started painting as a means to express my inner musings. I am inspired by nature and the beauty in mundane objects such as Ziplock baggies, plastic storage containers and old television sets. I create installations, performance pieces, paintings, drawings, collages, architectural drawings and videos. My work will continue to evolve since I am unable to stay static. My work is in the permanent collections of The Provincetown Art Association and Museum and the Cape Cod Museum of Art as well as a public space in Tokyo, Japan.
Polka Dots
I first discovered polka dots when I was in high school. I wore a polka dotted top and pant ensemble from the United Colors of Benetton to a Duran Duran concert with my best friend Amber. I wasn’t gay or straight, I was just me. Expressing myself with fashion and art.
I intuitively chose circles as a way to express my inner most feelings and philosophies. As a child I saw “asteroids” in my dreams. Of course, I am inspired by the paintings of George Seurat and the pixels on a computer screen. I see circles everywhere. This is no word for the number of dots there are all around us. No word in the English dictionary.
I went on a date with a guy from Boston (Scott) and he took me to a bookstore and bought me the book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds.
It sums up the way I feel about art.
