From our Director–COVID-19

A note from the Director on March 14.  This is a rapidly evolving situation. Stay tuned!

Dear Truro Library patrons,

We know everyone is concerned about the possibility of coronavirus COVID-19 in our community. The staff and Trustees of the Truro Library are dedicated to the health and safety of our patrons, visitors, and volunteers, and we want you to know the precautions we are taking here at the Library.

As a Truro institution, we are working diligently under Town of Truro protocols. In an effort to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus and in the interest of public health and safety, all Truro Town Buildings will be CLOSED to the public effective 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020.

The Truro Public Library, despite the closure of our main building, remains committed to providing the public with materials. You can request an item online, or call us to request an item. Once you have been notified that it is available, call the library at 508-487-1125 between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday, and let us know that you will be arriving to pick up the item. We will have it in the lobby waiting for you. Any materials that come in delivery or are returned to the Library are being wiped down with disinfectant. The company that delivers our interlibrary loans has informed us that they are also taking precautionary measures, including the use of gloves and hand sanitizer. We do ask that patrons who are experiencing any symptoms of illness, including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever to refrain from borrowing or returning physical items to the Library. Because of Library closures, no items will incur a fine through March 31 (that date may be extended).

If you are unable to travel to the library, we will try to deliver items to your home. Please call us at 508-487-1125 to set-up a home delivery option for you.

Remember that even if you can’t, or choose not to come to the Library, you can still use our online services to get reading and listening materials. You can download the Libby app from Apple’s App Store or from Google Play (for Android devices), and find instructions for borrowing e-materials on your mobile device at overdrive.com. The CLAMS network page (clamsnet.org) also has instructions on getting e-materials, located at the bottom of the page under “Library Links.” Give us a call at 508-487-1125 if you’re having trouble, and we will do our best to talk you through it over the phone. You’ll need your CLAMS card and PIN number (don’t worry, if you can’t remember it, we can set a new one for you).

Finally: Please practice prevention! We encourage everyone to take precautions to prevent the spread of flu, COVID-19, and other viruses. Here is the list provided by the Centers for Disease Control (cdc.gov):

  • Practice social distancing (6 feet) to protect yourself and your neighbors.
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care. Call your doctor’s office before you go in to see if your situation can be resolved from home.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue.
  • Throw away each tissue after one use.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily.

Please feel free to call us with any questions or concerns, and visit our website trurolibrary.org for updates are you committed to providing updates. We want to do our best for you, to provide you with the best service while keeping you safe.

Sincerely,

Patricia Ford
Library Director
