Ocean Sunfish & Basking Sharks with Carol Krill Carson
December 2, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Cape Cod’s marine waters are home to these unique and amazing creatures. The ocean sunfish, also known as Mola mola, is the world’s heaviest bony fish. It has a strange, almost alien-looking appearance, with a flattened body and a large head. The basking shark is the second largest fish on Earth, and a gentle giant that can grow up to thirty feet long. It feeds only on plankton. Learn about the biology, ecology, and conservation of these two fascinating species and learn how to become involved in research and rescue programs to help protect them. Whether you are a seasoned naturalist or simply curious about these awe-inspiring creatures, this program is sure to fascinate you.
