Borrower’s Policy
Library cards are available free of charge to Massachusetts residents as well as non-residents owning property in Truro. There is a $5.00 annual fee for cards issued to non-residents. Personal identification and proof of address must be provided when applying for a card. The library does not offer family cards. All cards are individual and non-transferable. The Truro Public Library is a member of the local CLAMS (Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing) network. Library cards issued by members are honored by all member libraries.
Children may obtain a library card at the age of 5 or upon entering kindergarten. A parent or guardian must accompany children applying for cards, sign for financial responsibility, and accept and understand library policy regarding children.
Borrowers are responsible for all items borrowed on their card, including fines charged for overdue materials and replacement costs for items lost or damaged.
Loan Periods
Reference materials and current issues of periodicals are non-circulating. All other text materials including books, audio recordings, and back issues of periodicals may be borrowed for a two-week period. This material may be renewed twice. Video material in both VHS and DVD formats may be borrowed for a calendar week and is not renewable.
Fines and Fees
Keeping library materials overdue will result in an overdue fine. The rate for text materials including books, audio recordings and back issues of magazines is $0.10 per day. The rate for video materials is $1.00 per day. Fines are not charged for any day that the library is closed. Patrons are reminded that materials may be renewed on-line or over the telephone. Materials with an outstanding hold request may not be renewed.
