Friends of the Truro Library

The Friends of the Truro Library meet the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 am at the library (except July and August).  Coffee and a social time are planned at 9:30 am, followed by a program at 10:00 am.  Everyone is welcome.

The Friends of the Truro Library, familiarly called FOTL, was founded in the 1950s at a time when Truro was still a very small rural community.  The two Truro libraries (Cobb Memorial Library in Truro Center and Pilgrim Library in North Truro) had just become part of the Massachusetts Library System.  The library budget was minimal, and many improvements were needed.  One of the first gifts made by FOTL to the library was telephones.  Now more than 50 years later, FOTL continues to provide discretionary funding and advocacy for the library.

As enthusiastic advocates for the Truro Public Library, FOTL sponsors monthly programs on a variety of topics, with the objective of bringing people together for social interaction and learning.  Everyone is welcome.  One of FOTL’s primary responsibilities is to support the decisions of the Board of Library Trustees.  FOTL serves as an important link between the library and the community.  The organization often uses its influence to help the library obtain financial support or to work actively for legislation that would be beneficial to the library.

FOTL provides funding for special projects, items and programs that are not covered by the library budget.  Fund raising by FOTL is coordinated with the Library Director and with the knowledge and support of the Board of Library Trustees.  The summer Book and Bake Sale traditionally takes place on the first Saturday in August with a second sale during Truro Treasures weekend in September.  FOTL also sells specialty items such as tee shirts, note cards and tote bags and is always on the alert for other fund raising ideas.

We invite you to join us.  Please print and mail in the form below.  Thank you for your support.
