The Sweet Spot and Beyond: The role of Sport Psychology Mental Skills, Positivity, and Mindfulness for Optimal Performance
We’re thrilled to have special guest Dr. Amy Baltzell visit the Truro Library. The sports psychologist and former Olympian will discuss her book Living in the Sweet Spot: Preparing for Performance in Sport and Life, sharing insights on and strategies for facing pressure in sports, life, or work.  How can we strengthen our experience of daily fulfillment and get the most out of ourselves when the big moments take place? Dr. Baltzell is a sought-after speaker who has worked with a wide variety of people, from youth to the Boston Red Sox.

Dr. Amy Baltzell is the Coordinator of the Sport Psychology Track, within the Counseling Program, within the Department of Counseling & Human Development Program at Boston University. Her teaching, writing, and counseling interests are in areas of performance enhancement, positive psychology, and mindfulness. She teaches graduate courses in sport psychology and positive psychology, and oversees and teaches graduate level sport psychology practicums. Dr. Baltzell has been involved in sport at all levels, including Olympic level rowing and Professional sailing. She also coached youth, masters and collegiate rowing. As a licensed counseling psychologist, and practicing sport psychologist, she provides educational workshops to teachers, parents, coaches, camps, sport teams (high school, collegiate, and professional level). She was a member of the 1989–1991 U.S. National Rowing Teams, the 1992 Olympic Rowing Team, and the 1995 America’s Cup All-Women’s Sailing Team. She is the editor of the March, 2017 book Mindfulness and Performance (Current Perspectives in Social and Behavioral Sciences) (a lay-persons volume is anticipated in the fall).  She is also the author of Living in the Sweet Spot: Preparing for Performance in Sport and Life, a contributing author to the books Whose Game Is It, Anyway (2006), Character and Coaching: Building Virtue in Athletic Programs (2001) and a co-author of the chapter “Arousal and Performance” in the Handbook of Sport Psychology (2001).
